How to Apply for SSC CGL 2017 Online?

Candidates can apply for the SSC CGL 2017 (Tier-1 Exam) through online mode only on or before 15-April-2017 (till 5:00 pm). Procedure of filling the application form through online mode given here below:-
  • First visit the official website of Staff Selection Commission http://ssconline.nic.in/, and jump over the heading "Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2017" then click on the "Apply" link which will be in blue colour (Once this link will be activated on official website, we will also update here). After that you will be redirected on http://164.100.129.99/cgl/ website that is "Application Form Window" as given in below picture.
  • SSC CGL Exam has mainly three parts i.e. "Registration Part", "Instructions to Candidates" and "Apply Part".
  • Candidates must have to read the important instructions carefully before filling the SSC CGL 2017 Exam under "Instructions to Candidates".
  • Then candidates have to fill basic required details in "Registration Part" i.e. Name, Father Name, Address, DOB, Education etc.
  • And in finally "Apply Part", candidates need to pay application fee, upload scanned photograph and signature in proper size and dimensions as described in "Instructions to Candidates".

Selection Procedure in SSC CGL 2017 Exam

Selection process of SSC CGL Exam includes 4 Tiers as indicated below:-

Tier-1
  • This is first stage of selection. All those, who have been applied for SSC CGL Exam 2017, will have to appear in the Tier-1 Exam.
  • This Exam will be objective type and conducted online.
  • There will be 4 sections in this exam and total 100 questions for 200 marks will be there as below:-
  1. General Intelligence and Reasoning: 25 Questions (Max 50 Marks)
  2. General Awareness: 25 Questions (Max 50 Marks)
  3. Quantitative Aptitude: 25 Questions (Max 50 Marks)  
  4. English: 25 Questions (Max 50 Marks)
  • Exam duration will be 1 Hour and 15 Minutes.
  • For each wrong answer 0.50 marks will be deducted.
Tier-2
  • After qualifying the Tier-1 Exam candidates will be shortlisted for Tier-2 Exam.
  • This Exam also will be objective type and conducted online.
  • Tier-2 exam will be 4 papers, (Paper-1) Quantitative ability, (Paper-2) English language and comprehension, (Paper-3) Statistics (Paper-4) General studies.
  • Paper-1 and 2 are mandatory for all posts and Paper-3 will only for the post of "Statistical Investigator Gr. II" & "Compiler" and Paper-4 will only for the post of "Assistant Audit Officer".
  • Each paper will carries 200 marks as below:-
  1. Paper-1 Quantitative ability: 100 Questions (200 Marks)
  2. Paper-2 English language and comprehension: 100 Questions (200 Marks)
  3. Paper-3 Statistics: 100 Questions (200 Marks)
  4. Paper-4 General Studies (Finance & Economics): 100 Questions (200 Marks)
  • Exam duration will be 2 Hours for each paper and 2 Hours 40 Min for Visual Handicap.
  • There will be negative marking for each wrong answer, negative marking of 0.50 marks in Paper-1, Paper-3, and Paper-4 and in Paper-2 it will be 0.25 negative marks for each wrong answer.
Tier-3
  • All those candidates who will qualify Tier-2 Exam, will be shortlisted for Tier-3 Exam.
  • This Exam will be descriptive type (English / Hindi) and conducted offline.
  • Candidates need to write Essay / Letter / Application writing etc.
  • Exam will carry maximum 100 marks.
  • Candidates will have to score a minimum of 33% marks to qualify the Tier-3 Exam.
  • Exam duration will 60 minutes and 80 minutes for "VH" and "Cerebral Palsy" candidates.
Tier-4
  • Computer Test / Skill Test (Wherever applicable)

Download Admit Cards of SSC CGL 2017 Exam

Candidates can download the admit cards of SSC CGL 2017 Tier-1 Exam through the official website of SSC at least 15 Days from the exam dates. SSC will not send admit card by mail post thus candidates need to download their SSC CGL admit cards for Tier-1 Exam thru its official website online. Candidates are advised without admit cards they will not be entered into the examination hall.

Know The Scheme of Written Examination

The written examination will consist of Paper-I that will objective type and Paper-II that will be descriptive type.

Paper-I
  • Subjects: General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 questions, Max. 25 marks), Numerical Aptitude (25 questions, Max. 25 marks), General English (50 questions, Max. 50 marks), General Awareness (50 questions, Max. 50 marks)
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer
  • Paper Type: Objective (Multiple choice questions in English & Hindi language)
  • Total Duration / Timing: For General Candidates 2 Hours 10:00 am to 12:00 noon (No entry after 9:30 am) and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm (No entry after 1.30 pm). For Visually Handicapped/ Cerebral Palsy candidates 2 Hours 40 Mins 10:00 am to 12:40 pm (No entry after 9.30 am) and 2:00 pm to 4:40 pm (No entry after 1.30 pm)
Paper-II
  • Subjects: Short Essay/ Letter writting in English or any language included in the 8th schedule of the constitution.
  • Paper Type: Descriptive
  • Max Marks: 50
  • Total Duration / Timing: For General Candidates 30 minutes, and for Visually Handicapped/ Cerebral Palsy candidates 45 minutes

Know the Syllabus for Written Examination

Paper-I
  • General Intelligence: It would include questions of non-verbal type. The test will include questions on similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate’s abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions.
  • English Language: Candidates understanding of the Basics of English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc. his/her writing ability would be tested.
  • Numerical Aptitude: This paper will include questions on problems relating to Number Systems, Computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions and relationship between Numbers, Fundamental arithmetical operations, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, use of Tables and Graphs, Mensuration, Time and Distance, Ratio and Time, Time and Work, etc.
  • General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.
Paper-II
  • The Paper will be set in English and Hindi and to the extent possible in other languages mentioned in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution as given in Annexure-X, to 13 test basic language skills commensurate with the educational qualification prescribed for the post. Candidates will be required to write one short essay/letter in English or any language included in the 8th schedule of Constitution.

Preparation Tips to Crack SSC MTS Exam 2016-2017

  • Study, Revise and Mark Important Points: One of the biggest mistakes that students make, they complete the topic well and move forward. But this is not the way how you should prepare.   • Name of Govt. Organization: Odisha Staff Selection Commission (SSC)
  • Total Number of Vacant Posts: 363
  • Posts: Junior Clerks (207) and Junior Assistants (156)
  • Qualification Required: Candidates must have passed 12th or equivalent examination from a recognized board with knowledge in basic computer skills. BCA/ MCA/ B.Tech degree holders are also eligible for these posts.
  • Application Fee: Rupees 100 as a processing fee is required for General/ OBC category candidates. Applicants belonging to SC/ ST/ PWD are exempted from such payment of processing fee.
  • Age Limitations: The age of candidate must be lies between 18 to 32 years as on 01-01-2016. Age relaxation 5 years is applicable to SEBC, SC, ST, all women candidates & for other refer notification.
  • Payscale and Salary: Basic salary is 5200 INR + Grade Pay 1900 INR will be offered to the selected candidates.
  • Selection Procedure: Applicants will be shortlisted on the basis of written exam and skill test. Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. After written exam and interview, Odisha Staff Selection Commission will made a merit list of all those candidates who has qualified in written exam, skill test and interview.
